About Alimaa Erdenebat
Alimaa Erdenebat is the founder and practice lead of Alimaa IP Law. She has over fourteen years of experience in trademark law in Mongolia and advises foreign law firms, in-house legal teams, and multinational brand owners on trademark registration, prosecution, enforcement, and dispute proceedings before the Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia and the Mongolian courts.
She is dual-qualified as an attorney-at-law in Mongolia and New York. She holds an LLB (Hons) and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, and an LLM in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) from the University of Geneva and the Geneva Graduate Institute (joint programme), Switzerland. She has been a member of the Mongolian Bar Association since 2011 and was admitted to the New York Bar in 2018. She has held a licence as an Intellectual Property Agent issued by the Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia since 2012.
She serves as a Board Member of the Mongolian Bar Association — the governing body of the legal profession in Mongolia — and chairs its International Law Committee. She is also an Arbitrator at the Mongolian International Arbitration Centre. These roles place her at the centre of the development of legal practice and international legal standards in Mongolia.
She is the author of the Mongolia chapter in the Manual for the Handling of Applications for Patents, Designs, and Trademarks throughout the World, published by Kluwer Law International — the world's leading specialist IP publisher, used by trademark practitioners in over 100 countries.
She practised as a Senior Associate and Partner at Lehman, Lee & Xu Mongolia, advising clients across corporate, commercial, and financial matters. She subsequently joined Hogan Lovells (Mongolia) LLP, where she advised international financial institutions, multinational corporations, and sovereign clients on cross-border transactions, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and mining matters. She then served as Legal Adviser to a Member of the Mongolian Parliament, providing advice on legislative bills, parliamentary resolutions, and matters relating to the minerals sector. Concurrently, she served as Senior Lawyer in the IPO and Capital Markets Division of Erdenes Tavantolgoi JSC — the state-owned entity holding licences to Mongolia's Tavantolgoi coal deposit — overseeing the legal aspects of the entity's international capital markets programme. She founded her firm in 2020, focusing exclusively on trademark law in Mongolia.
She has acted for global technology companies, international media brands, multinational aviation groups, online travel platforms, and international education groups on trademark matters in Mongolia. Her work regularly involves direct instructions from leading international law firms, including firms ranked in the Global 100.
All trademark matters at Alimaa IP Law are handled directly by qualified lawyers based in Ulaanbaatar. The firm does not use intermediaries, agents, or non-lawyer service providers.
